Katchewanooka Lake is the first of the Kawartha Lakes. Katchewanooka is an Ojibway word, which means lake of many rapids.
Being part of the Trent Severn waterway, lock 27 is the focal point of the area, joining both Katchewanooka and Clear lakes.
There is a boat launch at Lakefield Marina on Water Street. Lakefield is a beautiful little town featuring waterfront parks, hiking/walking trails, shops, and restaurants. It is about a two hour drive from Toronto and only ten minutes from Peterborough.
Interesting and helpful information about the lake, the surface area is approximately 351 hectares (866 acres) maximum depth is approximately 9.1 m (30feet) the average depth is 2.3 metres (7 feet). With the lake being not so deep there are many hazards to watch out for. Lots of them are marked but be sure to use caution.
