Eels lake is half in Peterborough County half in Haliburton County. You can get to the east side of the lake in about 10 min from Apsley. It is controlled by a government damn and is a reservoir lake for the Trent Severn water-way, this means that the lake will see substantial changes in water levels from spring to fall of up to ten feet.
Eels Creek flows in and out of the lake and through the Kawarthas from the outskirts of Bancroft to Upper Stoney Lake, some 30 kilometres to the south. Ice fishing is not allowed on the lake as it is a fish sanctuary.
Public boat launch location: Off HWY 28 on Eels Lake public landing road. Surface area is approximately 1021 hectors (2337 acers) max depth is approximately 42.7m (98 feet) and the average depth is approximately 6.7m (22feet).
Major fish species include Large and Smallmouth Bass, White Sucker, rock bass, and yellow perch.
